Marking Articles
You can mark articles (or entire threads) as read or unread with the toolbar buttons or the right click menu in the thread pane.
If you want to mark an entire thread as read, use this button (Kill Thread). Future incoming articles will not be "killed" (see the next command).
Ignore an entire thread with the Ignore Thread command (I). This command will add to the thread subject to the "Ignore List" and mark the thread articles as read. It will also ignore future incoming articles in the thread.
For more details see the Bozo Bin and Filtering Tools Chapter.
Reading with the Space Bar
Use the SPACE bar to page through articles one viewable "page" at a time. You can use page through unread articles in an entire newsgroup, if desired.
Space Bar Settings
Global Options - Navigation - "After Single Key Read"
There are two tabs for ONLINE and OFFLINE use and sorted/threaded settings. You probably want to set these to "View Next Unread Article" but there are other options.
Users reading offline or with slow connections may want to use "Skip to ..", which advances to the next article, but does not fetch it from the server. You can then choose the fetch the article or not.
If you want focus to stay in the thread pane so that you can scroll to the next articles with the arrow key (remember N, U, and D will fetch and display the article, if connected), go to Global Options - Preferences and do not check "When opening an article, put focus in the article pane."
Single Click Settings
Global Options - Preferences
Configure Gravity to open - a) articles, or b) newsgroups, with one click. Otherwise, you must double click or press the ENTER key. (Offline users may not want Gravity to fetch and open an article with one click).
When attempting to open an article with more than xxx lines ..
Global Options - Preferences
Select the desired option. One useful purpose is to prevent downloading large articles.
For example, if you do not want Gravity to fetch a large article, set "beep" for the action. If you want to fetch and read the article anyway:
Ø press CONTROL + ENTER to force Gravity to open the article
You can also use this setting to decode binaries with one mouse click. See the related Binaries topic: How to Decode with One Mouse Click
Mouse Settings
Global Options - Navigation - "Middle Mouse Button performs Single Key Read"
This setting may or may not work depending on the mouse settings. You may be able to set the mouse (in your mouse configuration, not Gravity) to perform functions in the article pane such as auto-scroll, or program a side button to act as space and single key read. The mouse wheel wheel will usually scroll by default.
Remember that you can select multiples articles at once in the thread pane by "dragging" with the left mouse button depressed.
