Playing Sounds
There are three playback buttons that can be changed to play different regions of the sound. Use the Control Properties Play tab to configure the buttons. Right-click on the button to display a context menu to quickly change a button's region or looping mode. The different regions and associated button images are listed in the GoldWave Manual.
To play a sound:
- Choose Open from the File menu.
- Find and select the sound you want to play.
- Choose the Open button. A Sound window is shown.
- Choose the
(Play All) button on the Control window to play the entire sound.
If you do not hear anything:
- Make sure the speakers are turned on.
- Make sure the speakers or headphones are connected to the correct socket (green).
- Make sure the Windows volume is not muted (click the speaker icon in the right corner of Windows Start bar).
- Make sure you see activity on the level meters and visuals in GoldWave. If not and the elapsed time is counting up, the sound contains silence.
- Try selecting a different playback device.
To play part of a sound:
- Open the sound, as above.
- Select the part of the sound you want to play. See Editing Overview for details.
- Choose the
(Play Selection) button on the Control window.
To start playback at any point in the sound, click on the time line under the waveform in the Sound window or right-click on the waveform and choose the Play From Here command from the popup menu. You can right-click-and-drag to select a part of the sound to play as well.
To loop part of a sound:
- Open the sound, as above.
- Select the part of the sound you want to loop. See Editing Overview for details.
- Choose the
(Properties) button on the Control window, then choose the Play tab.
- In the Play 2 group, choose the Selection option, check the Loop box, set the number of loops, then choose OK.
- Choose the
(Play Selection) button on the Control window, which now has a loop image
on it.
