Server - Properties - Servers Tab
Configure the actual news and mail servers with this tab.
News server nickname | You can give the news server a nickname, for example " NIN " as opposed to " news.individual.net " Note: Each nickname that you choose must be unique. If you omit the news server address, Gravity will try to connect using the nickname. You can set up multiple instances of the same server using nicknames - This allows you to use different properties and settings and manage groups as if they were located on different servers. For example, you might want to use one server setup for text only groups and another for binaries. |
News server address | Enter the Internet address for the news server. You can enter the address as a domain address (such as news.xxx.com) or as a dot-separated IP address (such as 123.456.789.123). If you omit the server address Gravity will try to connect using the nickname. If you use a local server, proxy, or helper application, such as stunnel, you will usually use 127.0.0.1 or "localhost" address. |
Mail server (SMTP) | The SMTP mail host Gravity uses to send outgoing e-mail (for example, when you reply to the author directly or forward an article). Like the NNTP server, the address can be a DNS name or an IP address. |
No password required | Check this radio button if your server does not require a password. |
Logon Name | If your server requires a password, click on the " Log on using " radio button and enter the account name in this field. |
Logon Password | If your server requires a password, click on the " Log on using " radio button and enter the password in this field. |
Log on using SPA | If you are using The MSN Network or another server that uses Secure Password Authentication (SPA), click on this radio button. When Gravity connects to the server, a Secure Password Authentication dialog box will pop up to prompt for your name and password. |
NNTP port | The TCP/IP port used to connect to the news server in your organization. The standard NNTP port is 119. If your server allows connections on other ports, you can change it. |
SMTP port | The TCP/IP port used for SMTP (outgoing) e-mail functions. The standard default SMTP port is 25. |
Note: Gravity does not support Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections internally. If you need SSL connections, install a third party application such as Stunnel (http://www.stunnel.org/).
