Q. Does Gravity Work with Windows Vista and Windows 7?
A-1. Version 2.9.1 and Higher
Yes - beginning with Version 2.9.1, Gravity is compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7.
· Gravity's old help file (Gravity.hlp) will NOT work in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Neither system supports the old .hlp format (although with a MicroSoft download, you can read .hlp files). This .chm file replaces the old .hlp file.
A-2. Older Versions 2.7 - 2.8
Yes - Note that when installed in Program Files and UAC is enabled, the databases will be saved in the User VirtualStore.
· Users with Admin rights usually do not have problems installing in "Program Files"
· Some users prefer to install in another location (not in "Program Files") to reduce problems associated with permissions or Vista's User Store and UAC. If you are not an administrator, you must install somewhere other than Program Files.
· Gravity Versions up to and including 2.7.11 may return an error when trying to set Gravity as the Default News Application. Do not try to set it.
With Versions below 2.9.x, data written from applications in "Program Files" (including Gravity's databases) will be written in Vista's User Virtual Store found in:
"C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Gravity"
"C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Gravity\newsdb"
Also, if the install directory is "Program Files," your decoded binaries will be in the User File Store. You might have less headaches if you change the decoding directory (View - Global Options - Decode).
Vista User Account Control (UAC) can be disabled by the user. If you want to know more about the Windows Vista® and Windows 7 file system, search the web for Vista User Account Control (UAC).
