Convert to Half-width
This section explains how to convert Hiragana and Kanji to half-width Katakana, and full-width Alphanumeric to half-width Alphanumeric characters.
- Select Hiragana and/or Kanji, and press the three times. The string is converted to half-width Katakana.
- Select the Alphanumeric string, and press the while holding down the Shift key. The string is converted to half-width Alphanumeric characters.
- Select the string, and press the to display the candidate list. Select the half-width Katakana or half-width Alphanumeric candidate.
- Select the string, and press the to display the candidate list, then click
, or press the , and select Half-width/F8.
- Select the string, and press the F8 key.
Tips
- Pressing the Non-conversion key in succession will toggle between Hiragana, Full-width Katakana, and Half-width Katakana.
When an Alphanumeric string is selected, hold down the Shift key and press Non-conversion to toggle between half-width and full-width Alphanumeric characters. - If a half-width Katakana candidate is not displayed on the candidate list, open the Microsoft Natural Input Properties dialog box, and on the Conversion tab, select the Half-width Katakana check box under Include in candidate list:.
- The option of converting to half-width characters by pressing the F8 key is not available on all applications. To use the F8 key to convert to half-width characters, in the Microsoft Easy Input Properties dialog box, on the Keyboard tab, select the Use function keys and F8: Half-width conversion check boxes.
Pressing the F8 key repeatedly will convert the selected string to Hiragana one character at a time, starting with the last.
- You can also convert to half-width Alphanumeric characters by pressing such keys as F10.
Pressing the F10 key repeatedly will toggle between all upper case, all lower case, and sentence caps.
