Thinstall's Virtual Machine (VM) is responsible for loading virtualized applications into memory and managing the virtualized filesystem and registry.

Thinstall's VM is "Thin":

· Lightweight on disk. The VM occupies only 100-300k of disk space and it is embedded into every application you create with Thinstall.
· Lightweight in memory. The VM consumes a small amout of fixed RAM (~1-5MB) and has no other effect on the application memory consumption.
· Lightweight on the CPU. Virtualized application run all native code, no emulation or translation is used - so there are no performance penalties for realtime applications.
· Lightweight on developers. Any application can be deployed using Thinstall without source code changes or recompilation.
