Thinstall easily solves grizzly Visual Basic Deployment issues

We have successfully used Thinstall on several different Visual Basic 6 applications. One example is an in-house R&D program that uses a third party graphics package. The original program ran fine everywhere in the company until some computers had a new inventory control package installed. Suddenly the R&D program could no longer access the graphics portion of the program on those computers. 'Thinstalling' the original program solved the problem nicely. Another example is a user interface program that a customer needed ASAP, but the VB setup failed on his computer. We 'Thinstalled' the program, e-mailed him the zipped file, and he had the program up and running in minutes, much to our/his relief.

Thinstall just works. It lowers cost, increases sales, and allows deployment of applications at high security installations

Before we had Thinstall, we had to:

Distribute our VB ActiveX DLL Control with HASP Protection (Glenco, in 1995)

This is pain. We had to order them, program them, ship them, pay for them, pay for the shipping + customs from Aladdin, pay to ship them to the customer,

Replace them because they are stolen, broken, eaten by a dog, etc. (I think I have heard everything...). And I don't like them (I have 6 attach to my computer)

Distribute our VB ActiveX DLL Control with all the other DLL and OCX

This is hell ! Our customers can be more easily supported (because they are few).

Finding the conflicting DLL or OCX is often a complex task (even more, remotely), and replacing them often bring up some other problem with other software.

But supporting the customers of our customers (end users) who are, in the security field (Police Dept, D&D (Canadian Army), CSIS (Canadian FBI), etc.) is really more difficult.

Their workstation are often completely locked and they almost never have access to the admin account.

To obtain the Admin Password to replace some conflicting DLL or OCX is almost as asking for the Fort Knox Vault Code...

So, we could not continue like that.

We have tried different options:

PEBundle 3.10 from Jeremy Collake (not very stable, mostly in "No Extraction Mode"), I am a registered user since 2 years

VB-PowerWrap 3.5 from Moonlight Software (only bundle in EXE file). Only tried shareware version

Exe Bundle 3.0 freeware (only bundle in an EXE file)

and many other sharewares / freewares.

Nothing worked.

Until Thinstall

Now we have an option. Thinstall marvelously solves the DLL/OCX conflict problem.

For the price I think Thinstall provided the best protection for our code and the best over-all value. That was before I even knew how awesome you are at tech support. I've only encountered one other company that is your equal in tech support - Xheo. You and Paul blow me away with how responsive you are when I have issues. Unlike most companies you seem to understand that Thinstall is a critical part of my release process and you've been great at resolving problems quickly for me (sometimes they have been my bugs and you didn't flame me for having you find them). Other components we use will take several days to get back to us, some never answer our questions at all. They don't seem to understand that I'm trying to ship a bug-free product and I'm dead in the water until they fix their bugs.

This product ROCKS!, I sure hope you have patents on the technology, because you really deserve to get rich off this! This is the best solution I've seen yet to filling a HUGE hole that Microsoft left in their .NET strategy. Especially after they bundled Ildasm with the .NET SDK! (perhaps they were just being nice and wanted to let people know that they needed to be paranoid?) In enterprise situations, it probably isn't such a worry, but for people who are building consumer applications on .NET or Java for a Windows client, this is a solution that will let me sleep at night.
