What is new
The complete ChangeLog for version 3.3.1 can be found here. Basically, it contains several improvements and bug-fixes “under the hood”, but it also has some new enhancements “on the outside”:
- A new and refreshing “exfoliation” theme
- The documentation link now goes to the on-line docs, always showing the newest information
- The “home” page shows links to current events from Nagios
What it looks like
Well, here are just two simple screenshots from Nagios running on my home network…
This is the new “home” screen of Nagios:
And this is the new “Tactical overview” (yes, I have 13 hosts at home):
Where to get it
As always, the new script has been submitted to SlackBuilds.org and the pre-built packages are available on my site.

Nagios announced the release of version 3.2.3 a few days ago, resolving a few bugs. According to the announcement updating your installation is recommended.
Since the ChangeLog is quite short, I copy it here:
- Fixes problem where disabling all active hosts/services was not taking effect
- Fixes for compiler warnings
- Fixes for format errors in event handler logging
- Fixed incorrect info in sample nagios.cfg file for state_retention_file
- Fixed broker_event_handler() to return ERR if data is NULL
I already submitted the new SlackBuild script and the pre-built packages for Slackware (32/64/ARM) can be downloaded already from my site.

- viewvc + Pygments (browser interface for cvs and svn)
- xspacewarp (Time-Trek like game for X-Windows)
- inadyn (Dynamic DNS updater)
- nagios + nagios-plugins (IT monitoring system)
- ntop + GeoIP + graphviz (Network usage monitor)
- zabbix-server / -agentd / -proxy (Distributed monitoring solution)
- hercules (Mainframe emulator)
- lbench (Multi-thread benchmarking tool)
- nbench (Console benchmarking tool)
This finishes the series of packages I planned to test / run on my ARMedslack system.
I might build other packages in the future, but there are no specific plans at the moment.

It contains several fixes and a new configuration interface (although I don’t use it, I do all my configuration with Vim

As a happy and satisfied user of Nagios, I updated my SlackBuild script immediately and after a few days of testing, I submitted the new version to SlackBuilds.org today.
Pre-built packages are already available for Slackware (32- & 64-bits) on my site.

For nagios and cacti you can download SlackBuild scripts from slackbuilds.org maintained by me. For cacti, if you prefer a complete package, you can download one for Slackware here.
For ntop, I adapted a SlackBuild originally written by Michiel van Wessem to install the newer 3.3.10 version. The ntop authors decided to automatically download & install some dependencies (Lua + GeoIP), even if you already have those installed. Since this is a very bad idea (they install it the way they like, while with Slackware YOU are supposed to be in control), I adapted their ‘configure.in’ and ‘Makefile.am’ scripts to simply check if those programs are installed and exit if they are not.
Then you can install them the way you like (and following the normal standards) and install ntop afterwards.
With Michiel’s permission, I submitted a new SlackBuild script for ntop so SlackBuilds.org that is currently in the pending queue.
Over the next few days / weeks I hope to have some time to elaborate on these three packages and write some hints on how to install and configure them.
