rrdtool 1.4.4 released - Slackware packages available
July 10th, 2010 by Niels Horn in RRDtool, Slackware | No Comments »
Last Monday rrdtool-1.4.4 was released. It contains some bug fixes and improvements you can read about here.
The SlackBuild was also improved to solve some problems with the lua, tcl and ruby bindings, that are all installed in the correct paths now.
The new SlackBuild has been submitted and new packages can be downloaded from my site.
Cacti 0.8.7e patch-level 6
July 6th, 2010 by Niels Horn in Monitoring, Slackware, cacti | No Comments »
A few weeks ago the Cacti developers released version 0.8.7f of Cacti, but it was removed from their site shortly after the release because of some new bugs that were introduced.
While we're waiting for the new version to be re-released, I built a package for the current release (0.8.7e) with all the patches that upstream [...]
Emotions
July 2nd, 2010 by Niels Horn in Random Thoughts | No Comments »
I'm not really that fanatic about football, but one of the questions I'm always asked when I tell people here in Brazil that I'm from the Netherlands is: "And what if the Dutch team plays against Brazil?". Well, today this finally happened, after so many years.
So since it was clear this game was going to [...]
Hebe - New GUI for Hercules
June 28th, 2010 by Niels Horn in Hercules, Slack/390, Slackpkg, Slackware | No Comments »
On the Hercules mailing list I read about a new graphical interface for Hercules on Linux, designed for KDE 4.4.
It is called "Hebe", after Hercules' wife (according to Greek mythology).
Hebe is described on its homepage as:
Hebe is a new KDE 4.4 front-end GUI for the Hercules z/Arch emulator. It was designed to have a modern [...]
Getting mysqlcc to build with newer gcc compilers and mysql headers
June 17th, 2010 by Niels Horn in Patches, gcc, mysqlcc
mysqlcc revisited
I used to use MySQL Control Center ('mysqlcc') quite a lot until a few years ago, when I switched to phpMyAdmin.
The biggest advantage of phpMyAdmin is that it is actively maintained, while mysqlcc has not seen updates for almost three years.
mysqlcc's interface also had a bit of an "old-fashioned" look, as it is still [...]
Packages for Slackware 13.1
June 5th, 2010 by Niels Horn in ARMedslack, Slackware | No Comments »
After the release of Slackware 13.1 in May, I rebuilt all my packages on newly installed VMs over the last few days (nights?) and uploaded them to my site.
Most SlackBuilds have been "migrated" from the 13.0 to the 13.1 repository with only cosmetic cleanups, and the packages have been rebuilt for i486 (32-bits) and x86_64 [...]
Slackware Packages page updated
May 17th, 2010 by Niels Horn in CAD, Slackware | No Comments »
In preparation for the upcoming release of Slackware 13.1, I reorganized my package repository and took a moment to clean up my Slackware Packages page.
It is like 99% automated now, getting the descriptions from the slack-desc files, the category from the SlackBuilds repository (after approval), etc. Some categories I still add manually through a small [...]
XSpaceWarp, or: converting old source code for modern compilers
May 14th, 2010 by Niels Horn in ARMedslack, Patches, Slackware, TRS-80, gcc
How it all started
On the TRS-80 mailing list I subscribe there was a discussion about an old (from 1977!) game I used to play on my TRS-80 Model I called Space Warp. This game was originally called "Time Trek", based on the popular television series Star Trek. When Tandy/Radio Shack released this game commercially, [...]
CAD Programs on Slackware - 4 - BRL-CAD
May 9th, 2010 by Niels Horn in CAD, Slackware
Introduction
BRL-CAD is an open-source solid modeling program originally created by the US Army Ballistic Research Laboratory, that later became the Army Research Laboratory. One of the original creators was Mike Muuss, who also invented the program that has probably been installed on more computers than anything else: the 'ping' utility. (Do check the source code [...]
CAD Programs on Slackware - 3 - FreeCAD
May 5th, 2010 by Niels Horn in CAD, Slackware | No Comments »
Introduction
The second CAD program I decided to test on Slackware was FreeCAD. As the name implies, this one is completely free, which interested me
The description on their homepage describes the idea and purpose of this program:
FreeCAD is a general purpose 3D CAD modeler. The development is completely Open Source (GPL & LGPL License). FreeCAD [...]
