Choose a data view for an XML document
When you open an XML document that has one or more Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) files associated with it, the XML Document
task pane appears, where you can select an XSLT file for displaying the XML data. XSLT files have the file extension .xsl.
Caution When you save the file after you choose a data view, Word discards any data that the XSLT file does not use. In other words, choosing a data view may make changes to the original file. If you want to preserve the original file, click the Save As
command, and type a new name for the file.
Do one of the following:
- To display the XML data by using one of the data views that is associated with the XML file, click an .xsl file in the list of data views.
- To select an .xsl file that is not listed in the task pane, click
Browse
. In theXSL Transformation
dialog box, locate the .xsl file that you want to use.Note For an XSLT file to display the XML data properly, it must be designed to handle the XML document that you are working with. If you have a question about which XSLT to use with the XML document, contact the person who is responsible for distributing the XML document that you are working with.
- To work with raw XML data, click
Data only
.
