Use automatic formatting as you type
Automatic formatting can make entering certain kinds of text faster and easier. The specific options that are available depend on the program that you are using. To see and modify automatic formatting options, do the following:
- Do one of the following in these Microsoft Office programs:
Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
- Click the
Microsoft Office Button
, and then click Program Name Options, where Program Name is the name of the program you are in, for example, Word Options. - Click
Proofing. - Click
AutoCorrect Options.
Publisher or Visio
- On the
Toolsmenu, clickAutoCorrect Options.I can't click
A file must be open before you can clickAutoCorrect Optionsbecause it is not availableAutoCorrect Options. Create or open a file to make this command available.
Outlook
- On the
Toolsmenu, clickOptions. - Click the
Mail Formattab, and then clickEditor Options. - Click
Proofing, and then clickAutoCorrect Options.
- Click the
- Click the
AutoFormat As You Typetab. - Select or clear the check boxes for the options that you want to enable or disable.
Important In Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Word, another tab is shown in the AutoCorrect dialog box: AutoFormat. You can ignore this tab because the options on this tab are not included in the Microsoft Office system. For more information, see Where is the AutoFormat Feature?
