Using the GravityBackup.exe Utility
Previous Microplanet Gravity Next |
Note: GravityBackup.exe is old and does not work with builds starting at 2.9.1
"GravityBackup.exe" is a small utility that can backup Gravity, including databases and all user settings for builds 2.8.x and lower. The application can be found in the Gravity installation folder, which by default is "C:\Program Files\Gravity"
Double-click the application, select "Gravity" from the menu and then "Backup.." or "Restore.." Of course you must back created a backup before restoring.
Note the following important points:
· GRAVITY CAN NOT BE RUNNING when you run the backup program.
· You MUST restore to the same drive letter and folder path as the backup.
If you are trying a new Gravity version and think you might want to go back to your current version, save the "Gravity.exe" file separately or you may have to download it again.
Tip: The backup files (.grv) can be zipped and the size will be reduced considerably.
You can restore the backups to a working installation. Say your computer crashes, or you lose a hard drive. Install Gravity to the same folder path as before, exit Gravity, and run the backup utility with the restore option.
Note: The backup .grv file is not a plain text file. Do not try to edit these files with a text editor. There are reports that you can edit the install directory, if you use a binary or hex editor and edit all instances of the directory. However, do this at your own risk (and save a copy).
If for some reason, you do not have a copy of GravityBackup.exe, you can download it at SourceForge, or at this link (not guaranteed to work).
