Off-Line Reading
Previous Microplanet Gravity Next |
Off-line reading means reading articles when you are not connected to the news server. To do this, you must have the body in the local Gravity database.
The main drawback with off-line reading is that the database size increases dramatically, as opposed to storing headers only.
Ø It is not practical to save bodies in binaries or very large groups. After you have retrieved article bodies, a small red arrow appears next to the article to indicate that the body is now in the database (has a "local body", in Gravity terms).
The article is unread and the article body is in the database. You can read this article off-line.
The article has been read and the article body is in the database.
Newsgroup Options
You can set certain options and overrides for individual newsgroups in Newsgroup - Properties
Gravity allows you to set storage options for only certain groups if you wish, so that you can store bodies for small groups while downloading headers only for larger or binary groups.
Overriding purge settings for off-line groups (to a shorter time) can help keep the database size smaller.
