NEWSGROUP - Subscribe (Ctrl + B)(also available in the right-click Group Pane Pop-up menu)
Opens the "Subscribe to Newsgroup" dialog.
Search - Find a GroupScroll through the newsgroup list, or use the "Search" box to type a word (or partial word) to narrow the list. Searching is plain text. You can not use PCREs or "wildmat" searches. The dot (period) has no special meaning and matches itself.
AddYou can only add groups one at a time. With a group selected, use the Add button (or Double-click the newsgroup, or press the Enter key).
Use the "Remove" button if you do not want to keep the group (or select the group and press the DELETE key).
Storage Mode (optional)You have an option to select whether to "Save Article Headers" (default) or "Save Article Bodies" for each group. If you are storing bodies you might limit how many articles you fetch at once (see next).
Retrieve Last ... ArticlesIf you do not want the default number, select how many article headers to fetch upon subscribing. Note the slider control is limited to 2,000 articles. However, you are not limited by the slider; you can manually enter a larger number in the text box.
· You can always get more or older articles later. See this topic: HOW-TO Get Older Articles · Gravity gets the newest articles first.
Gravity uses this number to start tracking or following the articles numbers in the group(s). In other words, it goes back xx articles from the highest article number, fetches those, and continues from this point forward in subsequent sessions. You will not see articles older than this. If you want to see older articles, go to Newsgroup - properties, and use the slider control.
FinishIf you want to complete the operation - press the DONE button. If you cancel with the "X" Windows Caption Button, changes will NOT be saved.
The Sample OptionSampling means to try a group during the current session, but not subscribe permanently. Gravity will ask if you want to convert the group to a permanent one when you exit or change servers. Otherwise, the group is deleted on exit. You can convert a sampled group manually using the menu command Newsgroup - Keep Sampled Groups or in Newsgroup - Properties.
Related Server OptionBy default, Gravity will fetch article headers automatically after subscribing.
You can configure Gravity to automatically fetch first batch of article headers (or not) on subscribing in Server - Properties - Operation Tab - "Retrieve headers for group automatically after subscribe."
