id

Purpose

List the user ID, group ID, and groups for a user.

Syntax

id [options] [username]

Options

-g displays group ID only.

-n displays group name instead of ID.

-u displays user ID only.

Description

The id command displays the user ID, the group ID, and the groups for a specified user. If you do not provide a user name, id displays information about the current user.
