File Menu Commands


Displays the window to specify the attributes and length of a new file. New files are virtually created and require no storage until changes are made. When the new file is saved, the Wave (.wav) format is selected by default. Use the command to change the "default save format".


Opens an existing sound file. If GoldWave does not recognize the file's format, the window is displayed. For unrecognized formats, you can associate a default format with a file name extension by using the command. The settings under control where the file is stored for editing.


Opens a file on a website.


Closes the current sound.


Closes all sounds.


Sets the file's title, author, description, and copyright information. This information is saved only in some file types, such as .wav, .aiff, .wma, .xac, .ogg, and .mp3.


Saves the current sound.


Saves the current sound under a different name and/or format. This command can be used to convert files from one format to another by selecting appropriate .


Saves all modified sounds.


Saves the selected part of the current sound to the hard drive under a different name and/or format. See .


Converts and/or processes a group of files.


Exits GoldWave.


At the bottom of the File menu is a history list of recently opened files. A file can be re-opened by selecting it from the menu. To clear the list, use the button under .
