Frequently Asked Questions about Genny
Is there a Genny implementation?
Yes. I have named it Genny Test. See GnutellaDev: Source: Genny.
What exactly is Python?
Python is a very well done object oriented language. Python programming is just plain easy, which is why I wrote Genny in it. More information on Python is available at Python's homepage.
What do I need to run Genny Test?
Short answer: An open source Unix such as GNU/Linux or FreeBSD.
Long answer:
- Python 1.5.2 or later
- Python's curses module
- wget(1) or fetch(1)
- select(2), fork(2), execve(2), waitpid(2)
Why does Genny Test use curses?
Because I can't stand having log entries dumped over what I am typing.
Is the protocol platform independent?
All Genny needs is UDP/IP. Genny can be implemented on whatever OS and hardware you like.
Is there a Genny implementation for for Windows?
Mostly. The latest release appears at Nicolás Della Penna's website.
How accurate is the protocol document?
It's quite up to date now.
