Part VII: Terminals and Printers

We don't spend a whole lot of time on UNIX hardware in this tutorial, but we can't avoid spending some on terminals and printers. Without these input/output devices, everything else becomes rather irrelevant.

We talked a bit about terminal setup back in Setting Up Your Terminal. Chapters 41 and 42 pick up the thread. Terminal and Serial Line Settings describes some of the underpinnings of the UNIX terminal interface-the way things work. Problems with Terminals focuses on problems that might occur and how to solve them.

Printing talks about how printing works under UNIX, including not only the basics of the print spooler but also ways to get formatted output. Among other things, it includes some nifty PostScript and image conversion utilities.
