openlog

openlog ident, logopt, facility

• Opens the log file. Takes the following arguments:
  • ident
  • Prepended to every message.
  • logopt
  • Logging options, containing one or more of:
    • cons
    • Write messages to system console if they can't be sent to syslogd.
    • ndelay
    • Open the connection immediately.
    • nowait
    • Don't wait for child processes before logging messages to the console.
    • pid
    • Log process id.
  • facility
  • Specifies the part of the system making the log entry.
